BiglyBT Configuration

Post by Toast »

I tried to restore a torrent from a different data directory. I2Psnark does not let you set data directory per torrent, only at configuration screen. I got a lot of problems with I2P snark when torrent data is in different directories and am thinking about trying BiglyBT.

Can someone please share a full recommended list of configuration options for the I2P helper plugin?

Is there anything that needs to be turned on/off or changed in the options outside of I2P helper?

Finaly is it better to use BiglyBT built in router, or connect it to a running I2P standalone router? I think that would require setting up a new client tunnel?

I'm writing to you from Germany so that at least someone will reply. And although I don't really speak English, I hope I can be understood.

Regarding point 1 of your question. The handling of the data directory with I2PSnark is known to be outdated. Those whose file system supports “links” can make do with it. However, the administrative effort should not be underestimated. (I2PSnark also behaves differently to all other BitTorrent clients, because it changes file names on its own authority. This leads to completely existing files being flagged as foreign files and a new download being attempted.)

Re 2 and 3, BiglyBT. Essentially, there is one thing that should be adjusted. Under “Connection/Networks” and “Sharing/Networks”, the public and Tor networks are general disabled. Only I2P may be used in principle. Otherwise, torrents will repeatedly establish connections with your real IP via the public network using external trackers and DHT. By general, we mean that this setting can be changed later in individual cases. See the “Privacy” tab in the GUI. This switch should also be taken into account when adding new torrents. Because if torrents from the developer can override this, which they regularly do, then other, not so friendly people will soon discover the possibility for themselves.

To 4, the router or routers. If you already have a router running, you can use it. The plugin “I2P Helper” built into BiglyBT is a functional (Java) router that is used if no external router is available or its scope is not needed. If BiglyBT is to run as the only router, the “HTTP Proxy” is switched on and a port number such as 4444 is entered. This port can then be entered in the web browser or used by a proxy if this has not already been done.

By the way, if you want to configure the tunnel setting manually, select the middle tab “I2P Only”.
